Hello all, had the pleasure of making a speech recently to more than 300 Allianz employees at an auditorium in Carnegie Hall. The topic had to address a demographic trend, and mine hits close to home:
“Fired in Your Fifties, and What You Can Do About It.”
In the speech, I point out that some 60 million man-years of experience now is sidelined as two million workers aged 50 or older are unemployed or underemployed. In the next 20 years, the U.S. economy could lose fully half of all jobs to the Internet and tech, a reduction of 70 million jobs–even as the ranks of workers age 50-and-up swell by 41 million people (to 140 million).
What to do? I’m still figuring that out, but some hard-earned insights come up near the end of this speech. It is, regrettably, a little too long . . . if I’d had more time, I would have delivered it shorter. 😉
